In 2019, desperate caretaker Carlos Quinteros took Sanford Sloane, 81, to Dr. Rajesh K. Garg, an endocrinologist with the University of Miami Health System. The doctor put the retired librarian on a once-a-day shot of 15 units of Lantus, a long-acting form of insulin. Now, gone are the sky-high glucose levels.
